Ohio State Basketball Tickets: Is Oso Still "School Soccer"?

Ohio State basketball tickets at one point gave fans a chance to catch one of America's most popular shows. However, that was 40 years ago, and since then the Buckeyes club has been widely known as the "School of Soccer", and for good reason. The football team has produced luminaries such as Woody Hayes, Archie Griffin, Eddie George and even current coach Jim Trissel, who has contributed greatly to the Buckeyes tradition.

Meanwhile, the basketball team has always been known to be good but not "excellent". They made it to the Final Four in 1999, but apart from a few bright years in the early '90s with players like Jim Jackson, the Buckeyes weren't known for their basketball program. All of that has changed recently and for specific reasons. Are the Buckeyes ready to be known as a "school of basketball" or a "multi-sport powerhouse"? Well, check out the basketball demo below to see how it goes.

The college basketball program, perhaps more than any other non-professional sport, is determined by the coach. Thad Matta came to Columbus in 2004 after OSU fired Jim O'Brien after a turbulent stint on the show which was successful but mired in controversy. Matta had an impressive resume based on his stints at Butler and Xavier in the state before heading to Ohio, and soon began to make his mark on the show.

Mata led the Buckeyes to a 20-win season in 2004-05, and went on to build on that start with a 26-win season in 2005-06. At the time, Mata's draft really put the Buckeyes on the map, signing what many consider to be one of the best hiring chapters ever. As a result, Mata alone provided a huge boost to basketball ticket sales in Ohio State, and for good reason. Buckeyes is currently loaded.

talent

Just as important as a college basketball program is a coach, no team will maintain long-term success without talent. Talent isn't the problem in Columbus, as C Greg Odin will almost certainly be the top pick in the NBA draft once he decides to announce. However, the team has more than Oden: PG Mike Conley, Jr. Leading the offensive line, Daequan Cook and Ron Lewis, junior and senior, respectively, add scoring power from the ocean and attack the basket.

This team also plays defense, with Oden scaring teams into the paint, forcing opponents to contend with the Buckeyes' aggressive surrounding defense. This talent could lead the Buckeyes to the Final Four, where Mata's Xs and Os give them an advantage as well. No matter where it ends up, title potential is there this season, so act now to get Ohio State basketball tickets for a show to remember.
